Before I came to know of Bodhi Meditation, I was addicted to mahjong. I would spend most of my days playing mahjong, in addition to spending S$800 – $900 on lottery tickets. My gambling habit not only affected my daily household tasks, but took a toll on my physical health. I had been suffering from asthma and was on medication for more than ten years. My condition was further aggravated by the cigarette smoke that I inhaled from my fellow mahjong playmates, who smoked during the mahjong sessions.

From a young age, I have had a sensitive nose, and after marriage I was constantly having flu and cough. I would always be having a runny nose, mucus back flow, as well as a blocked nose for an extended period of time. Every night, I had to stack three to four pillows beneath my neck before I could get some sleep. Under worse conditions, my teeth would hurt, and my cheek would go numb. Despite seeing countless Western and Traditional Chinese doctors, the root of my illness could not be cured. My large intake of antibiotics caused my body to get progressively weaker and lethargic.

I had been experiencing chest pain and breathing difficulty since a year ago, especially when I was in bed at night. About 3 to 4 nights a week I needed to use an inhaler prescribed by the doctor to help me breathe more easily. Besides this, I had sneezing episodes of up to 20 times almost every morning accompanied by thick phlegm.
